After a whole range of ‘Work in Progress’ bottles, the waiting has finally been rewarded. The Glengyle distillery has its first official release: The Kilkerran 12 year old. I just can’t wait to try it, so let’s taste and make some notes!
Kilkerran 12 year old has been aged in combination of 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks and is non-chill filtered. Bottled at 46% abv.
Kilkerran 12 year old tasting notes:
Nose: Light peaty with fresh tones, like minerals, grass and brine. Slightly fruity with hints of pear and some citrus tones. A bit of vanilla is hiding there as well. Oh and marzipan! In the background a feint hint of rubber?
Taste:Â Very creamy and thick mouthfeel, lovely! The peat is there again and a little bit of citrus. There is a bit of smoke. Brine and some sweetness that reminds me of biscuits.
Finish:Â A looonngggg and dry finish. It is sweet, but also has some white pepper to it.
Well this made my day! A great, well-balanced whisky, that’s for sure and absolutely price worthy. (It is available in the Netherlands for about 50 euros)
Hi Noortje, Thanks for the notes on the Kilkerran. I will be looking for a bottle next week. I wish you were going to be around; maybe another time.
Sorry for my late reply! Didn’t saw your message until now. Enjoy your stay in Scotland and hopefully we can catch up next time.
