I have this thing for Clynelish whiskies. From the moment I tried my first Clynelish I fell in love; these coastal influences and that typical Clynelish waxiness are just amazing! It’s a solid brand that (in my opinion) almost never dissapoints. So for today I thought it would be nice to combine one of my favourite whisky brands with one of my favourite independent bottlers: A Clynelish 1992 from Cadenhead!
This Clynelish is 21 year old and has matured in a bourbon hogshead. Bottled at 50,4% ABV.
Clynelish 1992 tasting notes:
Nose: Beeswax, minerals, zesty, limestone. Very pleasant nose here! Sweet fruits, peach, overripe pears al coated by beeswax and zest. Very strong in the smell but for 50.4% still gentle, you will not burn your nose.
Taste: sweet overripe fruits, some vanilla here, peach a lot of them. Some lemon and a little bit of the beeswax. Now the nose promised a lot more then I get on the palate. So I expected a bit more, but it’s still very good though. Kind of a menthol in there, lime zestiness and that lovely fruitiness.
Finish: sweet, fresh and fruitiness. Mouth coating and mouth watering at the same time, the finish is mid-long. Some pepper and bitterness but it’s a pleasant bitternes all surrounded by that lovely fruity sweetness.
This is a just a great dram, very fruity and with just enough complexity. Ow I can sip this the whole day 😉
