A Linkwood 1995 from Cadenhead today. As a fan of Linkwood whisky, I regret that there is only one original bottling. Most of Linkwood is used in blends such as Johnnie Walker. But fortunately for us, there are the independent bottlers who regularly come up with new Linkwoods. So we can still enjoy this beautiful brand.
This 20 year old Linkwood has matured in bourbon hogsheads and is bottled in 2016 at 55,5% ABV.
Linkwood 1995 tasting notes:
Nose: That is very clear vanilla at first. Then fresh pineapple, citrus and it also is a bit grassy. With water, banana as well. The nose is very sweet and fruity, all with a fresh underlayer. Some floral notes too.
Taste: Vanilla again. A lot of fruits, mandarins and oranges. The fresh pineapple and honey too. Just a tiny bit bitter from grapefruit and after that it becomes quite peppery.
Finish: The finish is mid-long and quite peppery. Then vanilla. The finish is also a bit drying.
A typical Linkwood with the vanilla flavours. It’s a good one, but not the best out there. Price – quality is ok. Maybe this is a better dram for the summer.
