Torsten Paul Whisky Company is back with a Ben Nevis 6 year old. And after tasting that very nice Ben Nevis (of the same age) from Roger’s Whisky Company, I was really looking forward to this one!
It was released under the Scotch & Tattoos label, in the Symbols of Scotland by Hunmin Ji series. Known for his beautiful watercolour tattoos, this is his second label design for Torsten. The first label, with the thistle on it, was for this Caol Ila. And now he has created a design with the legendary unicorn symbol, which proudly adorns the front of the bottle of this Ben Nevis.
This Ben Nevis has matured in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead and is bottled at a strength of 61.1% ABV.
Ben Nevis 6 year old tasting notes:
Nose: smoked chocolate, is that a thing? If not, someone should invent it because it smells incredibly good. This is quickly followed by ash and a smouldering bonfire. Honey and oranges. Roasted coffee beans in the background. And then raisins, but also liquorice and cinnamon.
Taste: smoke again, mixed with liquorice. Then dark chocolate. Raisins and prunes. Oranges again and ash too. A hint of spices, such as a pinch of black pepper and nutmeg.
Finish: long with dark chocolate, raisins, tobacco smoke and oranges.
Absolutely wonderful! I would have estimated this one to be older if I hadn’t known the age. The smoke is there but leaving plenty of room for the beautiful sherry notes and they work together just perfectly. Very well done Torsten!
