I’ve already given you my tasting notes for the Glendronach 1994 #1189, but as promised here is also the review for the Glendronach 1994 distillery exclusive cask #3399. So how is this Glendronach 1994 Distillery Exclusive cask #3399?
This Glendronach 1994 Distillery Exclusive has matured in a Pedro Ximénez Sherry Puncheon cask and is bottled at 53.2% ABV.
Glendronach 1994 Distillery Exclusive #3389 notes:
Nose: Nice, this gives me chocolate, oranges, plums and some marzipan. A touch of leather but it leans much more to the sweet fruits and chocolate side. Very well balanced! A touch of sugar and cacao. Water brings out the fruitiness and less of the dark chocolate. I love it!
Taste: Chocolate, oranges, the marzipan and a little bit of oak. Pepper and again some woodiness, it sometimes bites your tongue but well within limits. Fruitiness and note sure on this but looks like I am also getting melon and grapefruit. A pepper / chili bite, dunnage warehouse earth (Not that I’ve ever tasted that though.. 😉 ). With water a lot more of the tropical fruits and it becomes quite gentle. The oak and spiciness are gone now and your left with an abondance of fruit.
Finish: Spicy and leather, followed by some drying oakiness. Chocolates and plums and after that it comes back with a mouth watering fruitiness. Very interesting.
Overall: A very good one, and compared to cask #1189 I definitely prefer this one. Less citrus but more balanced and layered. A very nice Glendronach Distillery Exclusive if you ask me. It keeps coming back and it gives so much more then the #1189. Very nice! This has a lot to offer and some of you will stick with this without the water but I would urge you to try this with water. The Glendronach 1994 Distillery Exclusive #3399 is a big 90+ whisky for me!
