A long overdue review of this Springbank 21 year old, as this should have been online a long time ago.. But I simply forgot! Strange, because normally I don’t forget something when it comes to the Springbank. 🙂
Anyway, this Springbank 21 yo was released in 2016. And instead of the normal annual 21 year old release, this was a single cask release, bottled at cask strength. In total there were 13 single casks, all of which were selected for a different country. The one I am going to review today is the one that was released for the UK market.
This Springbank has matured in a Oloroso sherry butt and is bottled at 49,6% ABV.
Springbank 21 yo tasting notes:
Nose: Minerals and chalk. Also some lovely beeswax notes. A hint of cheese. Some honey sweetness. Besides this all it is very fruity; sweet pears and a little bit of melon. Green apples too.
Taste: A bit of lemon, mixed with some earthy tones. The cheese is here again, and the pears too. A hint of smoke. Minerals and chalk. Some lovely honey and it is slightly peppery. When adding water, it becomes somewhat more sour. Grapefruit and lemons.
Finish: A great long finish, with minerals and black pepper.
A very good Springbank indeed! It is quite subtle, but with those typical Springbank flavours that I like so much. Yup, defitinitely a great selection by the Springbank team.
