The newest addition to the Kilchoman range is the Sanaig. Kilchoman Sanaig was already released in 2015 as a limited release, but is now back as a permanent addition to their core range.
The whisky is named after a rocky inlet nearby the distillery, Sanaig. And is matured in ex-oloroso casks and in ex-bourbon casks. It is a NAS whisky and bottled at 46% abv.
This is my first encounter with Kilchoman, so let’s give it a try!
Kilchoman Sanaig tasting notes:
Nose: Peat, lemon, a hint of caramel, spices (cinnamon)
Taste: More peat, chocolate, caramel, hint of vanilla and some fruity notes.
Finish: A long peaty finish, but you can still taste some sweetness.
This is a very young whisky, but it is well-balanced and it does taste very nice. Nothing too fancy and if you are not familiar with the Islay whiskies then this is a good one to start with.
