A Tomintoul 1968, what about that! And it’s 45 years old too. This Tomintoul was bottled by Chester Whisky & Liqueur Company, which used to be a small shop in Chester (England). But the shop has been closed since 2015. It has only been open for 4 years and in that time they released about 15 independent bottlings, all under their own shop label. Owner of this shop was Thomas Ewers, who now owns the German bottler Malts of Scotland.
This Tomintoul has matured in a bourbon hogshead for 45 years and is bottled at 47,8% ABV.
Tomintoul 1968 tasting notes:
Nose: Fudge, a hint of coconut and then boom fruit galore! Lime, oranges, and a bit of grapefruit in the mix. Pineapple, and there’s a hint of menthol. Then melon and mango. Vanilla too. Later on also a bit of hay. It’s constantly changing, very very nice!
Taste: It’s quite woody at first, some coconut here as well. Marzipan. Grapefruit and citrus. Pineapple, some mango, and vanilla too. Bananas. A bit oaky, and also some ginger here. It’s less fresher than the nose suggests although there a lot of the same flavours.
Finish: The finish is mid-long with coconut, oak, and is a little bit drying. Somewhat peppery.
A lovely old style dram with a fantastic nose. The taste and finish stay a bit behind on this, almost like it’s too old, but really only a little bit. But still good though.
