At the end of January I already had a Bimber review for you, but today I have another one! A Bimber 2017, one of two releases from the Thompson Bros. And hopefully, more will follow soon.
This is a bit of an overdue review as this bottle was released a few months ago, and of course, that means it has been sold out just as long. But I just wanted to share my tasting notes with you anyway. It’s a special release because it’s actually the first independent Bimber bottling. It was offered through a ballot, which I personally think is fair since it offers equal opportunities for everyone.
This Bimber is 3 years old and is bottled at 59.2% ABV. Cask #167
Bimber 2017 tasting notes:
Nose: super fruity! A whiff of grapefruit at first, which is quickly followed by a hint of melon, tinned apricots and pears. A drop of honey too. Then red apples and a pinch of ginger in the background. Later I also get a faint floral note.
Taste: red apples. Honey. Again some tropical fruits such as pineapple and melon. Milk chocolate and vanilla. A hint of ginger, cinnamon and black pepper.
Finish: mid-long to long. Honey, caramel, milk chocolate and red apples. And also the same spices as on the palate.
Only 3 years old, but it’s damn good! It’s very flavourful. The nose is my favourite, because of that beautiful array of different fruits that just keep going. But the palate and finish are really nice too. Well done!
