The Dingle Samhain is the first release in the relatively new limited edition Wheel of The Year series. The name Samhain comes from the Celtic festival of the same name, which heralded the start of winter. So, that’s right on time, Noortje! Now spring has just started…🙄

So what exactly do we have here? It’s a triple-distilled single malt that has matured in 1st fill bourbon casks before spending another two years in 1st fill muscatel casks. After that, it was bottled at a strength of 50.5% ABV.

It’s the second Dingle whiskey for me to review, and the first, the Dingle Single Malt, the first core range bottling from the distillery, was a pleasant surprise. So let’s see what this one has to offer.

Dingle Samhain tasting notes:

Nose: a whiff of vanilla to start with.A malty note, leaning towards oatmeal cookies. Apple juice. Followed by sweet oranges, but raspberries and cherries too. Then a hint of raisins, a touch of milk chocolate, and cinnamon.

Taste: Raspberries and cherries, but also a floral note in the background. Then sweet raisins again, oranges, and a hint of lime too. Almonds. A hint of cinnamon and cappuccino. But there is a woody note as well.

Finish: mid-long with a hint of the same fruits and some spices in the back.

And Dingle surprised me again! A delicious and pleasant whiskey where the Moscatel casks are undoubtedly present, but not too much if you know what I mean. It sure is well put together—a great first edition to this Wheel of The Year series!
