And here it is! The Lagavulin 8 year old! So this is the one I am going to taste today. I hope it is as good as its older brothers.
The Lagavulin 8 year old is a special limited edition which is released in honor of the 200th anniversary of Lagavulin. According to the distillery the 8 year old is inspired by the story of one of Britains most famous and highly regarded whisky writer, Alfred Barnard. In 1880, the travelling expert sampled an 8 Year Old Lagavulin during a visit to Islay, describing it as âexceptionally fineâ and âheld in high reputeâ. So it is in honour of Bernard that they mark 200 years of Lagavulin, through the launch of the first Lagavulin 8 year old for decades.
The 8 year old is bottled at 48% abv and was matured in refill European and American oak casks.
Lagavulin 8 year old tasting notes:
Nose: Seaweed, oysters, grass, smoke and some sweetness in the background.
Taste: Sweet, smoke, lemon, and pepper.
Finish: The finish is very long with lots of smoke and sweetness again.
Despite it’s young age this is a very nice whisky with a lovely taste. It is not a very complex whisky, but I think that isn’t always necessary.  It’s clean and fresh and somehow it reminds me of Spring.
