The Macallan distilllery announced that a new 12 Year Old Macallan will be launched later this month.
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old (43% ABV) has been produced using whisky that has been matured in sherry seasoned American and European oak casks.
This latest release from the Aberlour based distillery, is said to be a new take of their signature 12 Years Old expression, distinctly American oak style, reflecting a perfect harmony of flavours and natural colour.
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old, is said to deliver delicate flavours of vanilla, citrus and light oak, followed by the more traditional rich fruit, sherry and wood spice notes that are synonymous with The Macallan.
Commenting on the launch, Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, said: “This is a single malt which showcases a true balance of character which results in a fully rounded and distinctive flavour profile. By combining wood influences, we have been able to produce a new Macallan which sits perfectly between our existing Sherry Oak and Fine Oak ranges.”
The tasting notes according to The Macallan:
Nose: Creamy butterscotch with a hint of toffee apple, candied orange, vanilla custard and newly felled oak.
Palate: Deliciously honeyed, wood spices and citrus, balanced with raisins and caramel.
Finish: Oak lingers, warm, sweet and drying.
