Time to sit down with a dram of the Timorous Beastie 40 yo. This blended malt from Douglas Laing is named after the poem ‘To a Mouse’ from Robert Burns. The package is great and so is the price. I can only hope the content is just as good, but I think it will be fine.
The Timorous Beastie is a marriage of single malts from the Highlands, including Glengoyne, Dalmore and Glen Garioch and is 40 years old. Bottled at cask strenght at 54,7% ABV. It’s a limited edition and there were only 1.080 bottles available.
Timorous Beastie 40 yo tasting notes:
Nose:Â Tropical fruit, cocos. Oatmeal with honey and cinnamon. A bit waxy, there is orange and marzipan. A hint of oak as well.
Taste: There is the tropical fruit again, but it is also spicy with hints of ginger and cinnamon. A bitterness in the end from grapefruit.
Finish: A long finish with a lot of spices; Ginger and cinnamon. The oats are back again. A really bitter grapefruit too and oak.
This is very good! The bitterness could have been a little bit less for me but with a few drops of water, the bitterness fades into the background. The lovely sweet notes remain. Great value for money!
