This lovely Glengoyne 21 year old was a gift from my parents. After I have tasted the 12 year old in a far distant past, this was the second of the core range that I was going to try but the first Glengoyne I write tasting notes of.
This Glengoyne has matured in 1st fill European oak sherry casks and is bottled at 43% ABV.
Glengoyne 21 year old tasting notes:
Nose: Hmmm, this is lovely. Very very fruity and sweet. Black berries, blue berries, figs and honey. Dates too. And even a hint of red fruit too. But also leather and nutty, which is a nice counterpoint to all that fruitiness and sweetness.
Taste: Yes fruity again, It starts with a lot of red fruit, much more than on the nose. Also white fruit. Cacao and dark chocolate. And a nice touch of sweetness from honey again. It is a little thin but very flavourful.
Finish: I love the finish, it is quite long with hints of leather, cacao and dark chocolate.
A very nice dram, especially if you like fruity whiskies. It is multi layered and very well balanced too. A little bit watery, but really a little bit though. Overall it’s just decent whisky with a good taste. Not a bad present at all if I may say so. 😉
