Glenlivet 25 year old, that should be something or not? I have had a fair amount of Glenlivet whiskies in my short whisky adventure, but I’m not a huge fan of the brand. Although I have had a few of the 16 year old Nadùrra releases that were pretty good and good value for money. But I have yet to discover an official release that I would consider to be great.
This Glenlivet has a 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish, and is bottled in 2016 at 43% ABV.
Glenlivet 25 year old tasting notes:
Nose: Red fruits like strawberries and raspberries, followed by some oranges and sweet honey. Hmm very nice! A bit of caramel and some barley notes. A combination of melon and pears. It’s very fruity and I like it a lot! Some lovely chocolate, a hint of herbs, and nutmeg and cinnamon to top it off.
Taste: It starts with some fresh fruits like pear and apples, then tinned pineapple. Nice, but it feels a bit watery though. All the flavours are there in a very nice way but with a higher ABV this could have been great. Some tangerines and a little bit floral with fragrant lavender. Where is the chocolate? 😉
Finish: The finish is mid-long to long, which I didn’t expected after the rather thin palate. With hints of caramel, honey, cinnamon, and also a bit floral. The fruits can be find here as well; pineapple and strawberries.
It’s good, but I will not buy a bottle of it. I think there are better bottles out there in this price range. But I can imagine this is something people would purchase and enjoy. I loved the nose the most, but it is losing points on the taste that is a bit watery. Disappointed? No, but it’s not the great whisky I’d hoped for.
