As every year, Glenfiddich released a special festival bottling during the Spirit of Speyside Festival. These bottlings are extremely limited and only available in the Glenfiddich shop during the festival itself. Always sold out in no time and this year was no exception. But this release was something not everyone expected… This year’s edition, A Glenfiddich 2003, is peated!
This Glenfiddich has matured in a 1st fill sherry butt and is bottled at 59% ABV. Limited to 400 bottles.
Glenfiddich 2003 tasting notes:
Nose: Ohh peat! Bonfire smoke, and a hint of ash. A bit of shoe polish. Dried fruit too. Plums and dates. And a lovely sweetness from honey and caramel. Quite interesting to see how well this works.
Taste: Dried fruit, sherry influences combined with a hint of peat. Ash. It goes from fruity to ash and bonfire smoke. And than followed by sweetness. Some kind of syrup, I think maple syrup, and honey. A hint of Coca Cola too, but without the fizz.
Finish: The finish is mid-long, with peat and ash. This is followed by honey and maple syrup.
A quite surprising and interesting Glenfiddich! Is it odd? Yes! But the peat seems to work very well with the fruity flavours. It is not overly complex, but it is very good.
