One of Timorous Beastie’s latest releases is Meet The Beast. A limited Edition bottled at cask strength. And like all other Timorous Beastie releases, this is a Highland blended malt.
As the name implies, this must be a not so timorous release and since it was bottled at cask strength, that may well be the case. Douglas Laing says: expect the unexpected… So let’s see if it lives up to the name. 🙂
This Timorous Beastie has matured in ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 54.9% ABV.
Timorous Beastie Meet The Beast tasting notes:
Nose: rather vibrant and fruity. Green apples and fresh pears. A hint of vanilla and greek yoghurt. Pineapple in the back. Lemons and a faint floral note. Later also a whiff of powdering sugar and banana candies.
Taste: plenty of vanilla on the arrival. A touch of caramel fudge and a light barley note. Unripe pears. Pastry. Followed by green bananas. A pinch of white pepper and anise seed as well.
Finish: mid-long. Vanilla again, anise seed and a hint of pink grapefruit.
This one speaks to me more than the original one. No idea if there is an age difference, but the cask strength definitely adds some punch. It also has a lot of influences from the bourbon casks, which makes it a bit more pronounced. Nothing too fancy, but just a nice whisky. I like it.
